Dementia prevalence across the world continues to rise. Locally our community has not been immune to this trend. Not only are Alpena County older adults becoming disabled by dementia, their spouses, naturally become their caregivers. This is a heavy burden for families and a huge issue affecting our retirement community. We must be proactive in addressing the needs of individuals and families affected by this debilitating condition.
The need is critical to increase resources, education, training and opportunities for socialization among other things. We at the Alpena Senior Citizens Center realize that we can't do this alone so we are reaching out to each of you, our community of caring friends, family and businesses to help in any way you can.
